Karnataka Komu Souharda Vedike calls for an urgent protest to condemn Sunday's attacks on Christian prayer halls and pastors across Udupi, Chikmaglur, and Dakshin Kannada districts.
The protest will be held today, September 15th at 4 pm in front of Town Hall.
The attacks, carried out by the Bajrang Dal (they have claimed responsibility), are in violation of the Indian Constitution and the rights guarenteed in it to all Indian citizens to practice and propagate their religion. The attacks on Sunday are a mere continuation of attacks on the Christian community taking place in other districts across Karnataka including Davangere.
In the past, the Sangh has targetted the Muslims and Dalits on different pretexts - in the coastal belt it was in the name of 'sacred cow'. The Adi Udupi incident in 2005, the Mangalore riots in 2006, the Shantipura incident in 2008 are just mere examples. Given that we have a BJP government in place, the continued attacks on minority communities and Dalits is a clear indication of an increasingly communalized Karnataka. We hope you will stand with us in this fight for a secular and peaceful Karnataka.
