I too am asking similar questions. And the direction in which this is leading is something that will really boggle the mind and perhaps cause many histories to be rewritten. I am indeed obliged to you for the links you sent. I enjoyed reading Chandler's material, very useful, and offered many important insights, but did not take me in the direction you suggest. I found more corroboration here for some of the work I have been doing. I approach the question from a different angle, you see.
