Again and again I am surpirised by the kind of suggestions for me todo research. I have done and this is the outcome. Devanagari was not a
substitute for a local language. Have you read at least one Veda in
original ? Do you know what Sanskrit is used there ?
Or do you have any idea of Panini's Sanskrit ? You folks are obviouslyclouded under the colonial Max Mullerian legacies that sought to
 belittle every Indian tradition.
Now to some hard facts. Sanskrit is of many shades, the oldest beingRigvedic Sanskrit. The core words used from antiquity to the recent
styles sugeest a great continuity. The post Mahabharata Sanskrit is
obviously Panini. There have been many commentators of Rigveda and the
most recent one is itself is Yaska's (on the lexicon) and Panini says
this itself is very old. If devnagari was not primarily developed for
Sanskrit, then definitely the human mouth is not for eating !

Both the above are Americans and that should calm anyone questioning bias. Where did the Zend Avesta get so much of Sanskrit from ? How theSumerians spoke a language so close to Tamil or Telugu ?
Will you please tell me one Indian language except Tamil that is not aderived one of Sanskrit ? Go ahead, this is a very serious one. The
liguistic field is quite daunting and there are ample resources on the
 net.
Coming to the religions concept inside Hinduism: The Hinduism that yourefer is the same one as Sanatana Dharma. The Semitic concept that a
religion needs a founder does not find a place here. The original
Vedic Religion is now approximately eight millennia old by a modest
calculation. It developed cracks and Buddhism emerged. Many religions
protesting both Vedism and Buddhism erupted here. But the character
 was the same.
Sankara's unification of religions is not for someone to come here andpoach or preach. It depicts a new phase that is all. My surprise and
that too a great one is that, after so many brutal campaigns, the
religious /scriptural character of this nation has not changed much.
That is the hallmark of great Dharma. In contrast, the empty churches
of Europe and America tell a different story. You might consider a
research there also. Another spate of startling facts would roll out.
